To Molly,
Thank you for blessing us with ten unforgettable years of pure love, friendship, and endless inspiration. You’ve been with us through every chapter of our lives. From our first jobs to blossoming careers, to new cities and new beginnings. You saw us grow, stumble, and find our way. You stood by us as we fell in love, celebrated our marriage, and eventually welcomed children into our world. Every milestone, every change — you were right there, a constant, grounding force through all the chaos and joy. Looking back, you have taught us so many life lessons without realizing. Thank you for imparting these nuggets of wisdom through your life and spirit.
Adaptability and Resilience
From Georgia to NYC to Austin, you adapted to every new chapter of life. From Georgia, you made your way to NYC. Someone else had taken you in first, but they gave you up. So we gave you the home you deserved, and in return, you gave us everything. You taught us to persevere and adapt to all challenges in life. Many who know you could attest, there was just something about you that made you so different. There was some sort of gentle fighting spirit in you and it showed in everything you did.
Act Weak When Strong and Strong When Weak
You were the sweetest soul but always stood your ground. You watched over us and everyone we loved. Like the time Tyler was getting bullied at the dog park, and without hesitation, you jumped to his rescue. Or the time when you were bullied by massive dogs twice your size but ended up putting them in their place. Yet, when smaller dogs would annoy or snap at you, you would never fight back somehow knowing that it would grossly unfair. It always made us wonder how or why you could show such restraint at times but I guess it was your way of showing us to always do the right thing, turn the other cheek, but never back back down against bullies.
Selflessness and Kindness
Lastly, your sweet, motherly spirit touched everyone around you. When we brought in foster dogs, you welcomed them with grace, always ensuring they felt they belonged and teaching them the ways like climbing up stairs or play wrestling. And when Theo came into your life, you embraced him with love and patience, even though he tested you in every way and took the spotlight away from you. We’re forever grateful for how selflessly you cared for us and everyone around you, always showing kindness no matter the circumstance. Did you know you inspired several of our friends to rescue and adopt dogs because of their time with you? That’s the impact you’ve had.
Goodbye
The past few days, watching you suffer, broke something inside us we didn’t know could break. It was unbearable to see you, once so full of life, lying so still, so thin, so unlike the vibrant Molly we knew. We’re sorry for every moment you spent in agony, for every step you tried to take that ended in you collapsing, helpless.
Those last nights with you, lying together in the dark, listening to your cries, we felt completely helpless. We wanted nothing more than to ease your pain, to take it all away, but all we could do was hold you. We wished it could’ve been different. We wished you could’ve left this world as you lived in it — strong, full of life, fearless. Instead, we watched you wither, and it felt like a nightmare.
We don’t know how to express just how much we’re going to miss those days with you. You were woven into the very fabric of our lives, a silent witness to all our joys, struggles, and everything in between. It’s hard to imagine moving forward without you, but we’ll carry your spirit with us in everything we do.
Thank you, sweet Molly, for being with us through every beautiful moment. You will forever be in our hearts. Rest now, sweet girl.
